Omania, a 2019 Junior World bronze medalist who competes for Michigan State, came into the Senior World Team Trials as the No. 6 seed. He opened with a 9-0 technical fall over past Senior Nationals champion Hayden Tuma of Suples WC, then scored another 9-0 technical fall over 2016 Olympian and past Senior World Team member Jesse Thielke of Army WCAP. This put Omania in the Championship Series on day two, where he faced 2020 Olympian and past Senior Nationals champion Alejandro Sancho of Army WCAP.
Omania defeated Sancho in two straight matches in their best-of-three series, winning the first match 6-3 and claiming the second match 3-2. This put Omania on his first Senior World Team, which will compete at the Senior World Championships in Oslo, Norway in early October.
Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level.
To nominate a wrestler for this honor please send the athlete's name, wrestling program, weekly accomplishments and career accolades to gabbott@usawrestling.org.
