Jordan Nelson (Kingsland, Ga./Life University) has been selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on Feb. 23, 2022.
Nelson won the Mid-South Conference Championship in women’s wrestling at 170 pounds, going 3-0 at the event.
Entering the weekend as the No. 2 seed, Nelson opened her tournament with a 10-0 technical fall against Catherine McNulty from Indiana Tech and followed it up with a dominant 9-1 win over Chamira Cooper from the University of the Cumberlands. In the finals, Nelson met up with top-seeded Dymond Guilford, a multiple-time U.S. National Team member. Nelson walked away with a decisive 8-2 victory for the crown.
Nelson was one of five individual conference champions for Life and helped the Running Eagles to a second-place team finish at the tournament.
On March 11-12, Nelson will compete at the NAIA Championships.
Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level.
