Nahshon Garrett named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week

Nahshon Garrett (Titan Mercury WC/Lehigh Valley WC) was named as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on May 23.
Garrett won the 61 kg men’s freestyle title at the 2023 Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament in Colorado Springs, Colo. on May 21, earning a spot in Final X in Newark, N.J. on June 10.
Seeded No. 4, Garrett opened the event with a 10-0 technical fall over No. 5 seed Nathan Tomasello. In the semifinals, he defeated No. 1 seed and 2023 U.S. Open runner-up Austin DeSanto by a 10-0 technical fall. In the finals, Garrett defeated No. 3 seed and 2021 World silver medalist Daton Fix, 12-4. Garrett advances to Final X in Newark, N.J. on June 10, where he will face 2023 U.S. Open champion Vitali Arujau.
Garrett won Final X in 2018 but was unable to compete in the Senior World Championships due to injury. He is a two-time U.S. Open runner-up and a five-time placewinner. He has been a runner-up at both the Dave Schultz Memorial International and the Bill Farrell Memorial International. Garrett was a 2016 NCAA champion for Cornell, and a four-time All-American for the Big Red. Originally from Chico, Calif., he was a two-time CIF California state champion for Chico High School.
