FARGO, N.D.—Wrestling in Fargo is set to officially wrap up on Friday afternoon as the Junior Greco-Roman finals pairings have been set following the morning semifinal action at the FargoDome. The slate, which is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. CT, features Nebraska’s Nick Hamilton (152), who knocked off Oklahoma’s Jordan Williams, a junior freestyle champion from earlier in the week.
Team Illinois leads the way with five wrestlers in the finals session. California has four finalists, while Wisconsin and Nebraska have three represented in the finals.
Perhaps the most anticipated bout of the finals session will come at 195 pounds, where 2019 Junior Nationals finalist Ryan Cody (Florida) will match up against Iowa’s Wyatt Voelker, who is ranked No. 15 nationally at 195 by FloWrestling. Cody has out-scored his Greco-Roman competition 52-0 this week, an impressive performance that included an 11-0 first-period win in the semifinals over Tom Culp (Illinois).
We will see an all-Colorado finals bout at 120-pounds. Jett Strickenberger, who took fourth at 120 in junior freestyle, will square off against Max Black in the finals bout. Four of Black’s five wins in this tournament have been via tech fall. He defeated New Mexico’s Jonathan Gurule in the semis. Strickenberger has also notched five tech falls en route to the finals.
Another all-state final will take place at 106 pounds, where California is represented by Ray Ray Harris and Elias Navida. Harris is a USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals champion, but did not compete in the freestyle competition earlier in the week. Navida knocked off Oklahoma’s Christian Forbes in the semifinals with a 13-2 tech fall — Forbes is ranked No. 4 nationally by FloWrestling.
The finals session can be watched live on FloWrestling at 2 p.m. CT.
