Complete preview of U.S. Greco-Roman team primed for U17 Worlds in Rome, July 25-31

Team USA has prepared 10 Greco-Roman athletes to make their World Championships debuts at the 2022 U17 World Championships in Rome, July 25-31.
Four athletes on the roster were double 2022 Pan American champions, winning both freestyle and Greco-Roman titles, including Christian Castillo at 48 kg, Zan Fugitt at 60 kg, Joel Adams at 65 kg and Koy Hopke at 110 kg.
Hopke, a native of Amery, Wisconsin, will represent Team USA in both styles. He boasts a Triple Crown after winning national titles in Folkstyle, freestyle and Greco-Roman in 2021.
He is joined by Castillo, who also made both the freestyle and Greco-Roman World Teams. He hails from Glendale, Arizona and was the 2021 USMC 16U National runner-up.
Also on the list of double 2022 Pan American champions, Fugitt, of Nixa, Mo., is committed to wrestle at Oklahoma State. Joining him is Adams of Omaha, Nebraska, who was named Most Outstanding Wrestler of the 2021 USMC 16U National championships after winning freestyle and Greco-Roman titles.
At 80 kg, Cole Han-Lindemyer of Farmington, Minnesota is another athlete on the roster who has seen success on the international stage as the 2022 U17 Greco-Roman Pan American champion and freestyle runner-up.
Several athletes on the roster have made their presence known at the USMC Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota including Arvin Khosravy at 71 kg, Cody Merrill at 92 kg and Nick Treaster at 55 kg. Khosravy attends Chaminade College Preparatory in Woodland Hills, California and was the 2021 champion in Fargo at 152 pounds.
Merrill is a California state champion for Gilroy High School. At Fargo in 2021, he made a run in both styles, winning the Greco-Roman title and finishing second in freestyle at 170 pounds.
At 55 kg, Nick Treaster of Newton, Kansas was a two-time Kansas state champion and 2021 double All-American at Fargo. Treaster is committed to wrestle at Navy.
Davis Motyka at 45 kg and Elyle Francisco at 51 kg round out the Greco-Roman field. Francisco, from Anchorage, Alaska, placed third at the 2021 UWW Cadet Futures Nationals. Motyka attends Wyoming Seminary and was a 2021 USMC 16U National All-American, placing fifth in Greco-Roman. Additionally, he took fourth at the U17 USMC U.S. Open in freestyle this year.
These ten athletes, coached by Steve Horton, LeRoy Gardner and Kyle Martin, will look to leave their mark in Rome, Italy at their first World Championships. The tournament will open with Greco-Roman competition on Monday, July 25, followed by women’s freestyle on Wednesday, July 27 and men’s freestyle on Friday, July 29.
