Semifinals set in U23 division, quarterfinals set at U17 level at USMC Women’s Nationals in Spokane, Wash.

SPOKANE, Wash. – The first two tournaments of the USMC Women’s Nationals at The Podium in Spokane, Wash., kicked off on Friday, with the quarterfinals contested in both divisions.

These tournaments were loaded with nationally ranked high school wrestlers at the U17 level, as well as college and Senior-level All-Americans at the U23 level.

The U23 semifinalists were determined in the morning session,

Returning U23 National champion who have reached the semifinals are Felicity Taylor (53 kg), Alisha Howk (55 kg), Nichole Moore (59 kg) and Macey Kilty (65 kg). Howk was a U23 World bronze medalist last year, while Kilty is a multiple age-group World medalist.

Four-time NCWWC champion Emily Shilson, a 2021 U23 World champion and multiple age-group World champion, has reached the 50 kg semifinals. Shilson, who competes at McKendree, has drawn Kendra Ryan of North Central in the semifinals.

A pair of 2022 U20 National champions, both who won medals at the U20 Worlds, are also semifinalists at the U23 Nationals, Adaugo Nwachukwu (62 kg) and Tristan Kelly (76 kg). Nwachukwu is a two-time NAIA champion for Iowa Wesleyan, while Kelly competes for Army WCAP.

Champions at the U23 World Team Trials may compete at the U23 World Championships in Tampere, Finland, October 23-29, unless an age-eligible member of the 2023-24 U.S. Senior National Team chooses to compete at the weight class, as determined by the U23 World Team Selection Procedures.

Among the wrestlers reaching the quarterfinals at the U17 level at returning champions Elena Ivaldi (55 kg) and Jasmine Robinson (69 kg).

There are six 2022 U15 nationals champions who have reached the U17 Nationals quarterfinals today: Jaclyn Bouzakis (40 kg), Morgan Turner (43 kg), Emma Bacon (49 kg), Isabella Marie Gonzales (53 kg), Isis France (61 kg) and Sarah Henckel (69 kg).

Champions of the U17 World Team Trials qualify to compete at the U17 World Championships in Istanbul, Turkey, July 31 – August 6.

The second session will feature the semifinals in the U23 level, as well as the quarterfinals and semifinals at the U17 level, starting at 3:30 p.m. PT
