Mensah Stock, Cox decline Final X berths; Updated 2023 Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament qualifiers, as of April 21

Two 2022 Senior World medalists from the United States have declined their automatic berth in 2023 Final X, Tamyra Mensah Stock (2022 World champion at 68 kg in women’s freestyle) and J’den Cox (2022 World silver medalist at 92 kg in men’s freestyle). The deadline was April 21 at 5:00 p.m. MT

With that decision, both 68 kg in women’s freestyle and 92 kg in men’s freestyle will now be contested at the 2023 Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament is set for May 20-21 at Discovery Canyon High School in Colorado Springs, Colo.

This is the updated list of athletes who have already qualified for the 2023 Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament, as of April 12, 2023, with the addition of those two weight classes.

With the changes in the qualifying procedures for Final X, the Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament will not include all of the 30 weight classes. In weight classes where a 2022 Senior World medalist accepted his or her Final X position, the World medalist will wrestle against the 2023 U.S. Open champion at their weight class in Final X. Those weights will not be included at the Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament.

In the weight classes where the USA did not win a 2022 Senior World medal (15 weights), as well in the two weight classes that a 2022 Senior World medalist declined their Final X position, those weight class will be contested at the Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament. In these weight classes, the 2023 U.S. Open champion will wrestle the winner of the 2023 Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament in Final X.

We list the qualifiers at the 17 weight classes for the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament. This includes 10 Greco-Roman weight classes, four women’s freestyle weight classes and three men’s freestyle weight classes.

Currently, there are 84 athletes who have already qualified to compete at the Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament.
