USA Wrestling to expand its prestigious Triple Crown to 10U, 12U and 14U girls this season
by Gary Abbott, USA Wrestling
USA Wrestling is expanding its prestigious Triple Crown to three more girls age-groups this season, implementing the program at the U10, U12 and U14 age-level.
The Triple Crown is awarded to an athlete who wins three specific USA Wrestling national titles in the same year.
For girls at the U10, U12 and U14 levels, the three events of the Triple Crown will include
• USA Wrestling Preseason Nationals, Des Moines, Iowa, October 30, 2022
• USA Wrestling Girls Folkstyle Nationals, Omaha, Neb., March 3-5, 2023
• USA Wrestling Women’s Nationals, Spokane, Wash., April 14-16, 2023
Please note that the divisions at the Preseason Nationals are grouped by grade level, while the Girls Folkstyle Nationals and the Women’s Nationals are by date of birth.
Who will be the first girl to win a Triple Crown at the 10U, 12U and 14U levels?
One year ago, USA Wrestling created the Triple Crown for the 16U and Junior age-levels. In the first year of the program, no athlete at either the 16U or the Junior age level were able to win the Triple Crown.
The events where athletes can get credit towards the 2023 Girls 16U and Junior Triple Crown are:
• USA Wrestling Girls Folkstyle Nationals, Omaha, Neb., March 3-5, 2023
• National High School Recruiting Showcase, Las Vegas, Nev., April 28-29, 2023
• USA Wrestling Women’s Nationals, Spokane, Wash., April 14-6, 2023
• USA Wrestling Junior and 16U Nationals, Fargo, N.D., July 14-22, 2023
To win the Junior Triple Crown, a wrestler must win the Junior division at the Girls Folkstyle Nationals and the Junior Nationals in Fargo, plus one of the other events.
To win the 16U Triple Crown, a wrestler must win the 16U division at the Girls Folkstyle Nationals and the 16U Nationals in Fargo, plus one of the other events.
Since there were no 16U or Junior Triple Crown winners among girls last year, who will become the first Triple Crown winners at these age levels?
With the addition of the three age-group levels for girls this year, the Triple Crown for girls matches the Triple Crown for boys, each with awards provided at the 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and Junior levels.
