Five 2022 14U National Champs advance to semifinals, Pennsylvania leads team standings

FARGO, N.D. – The action in the Fargo Dome continued through session four of men’s freestyle as the semifinals are set for the 16U division.
At 88 pounds, 2022 14U National Champion Hudson Chittum of Tennessee will meet Edward George of New Jersey in the semifinals. Chittum brought down Cooper Sandoval of Nevada by 10-0 technical fall in the quarterfinals. George defeated Loc Webber of Ohio in the quarterfinals in a tight 8-6 match.
Mac Crosson of Iowa saw his time in the championship bracket come to a close, falling to Case Bell of Indiana. Crosson was aiming to repeat as he was the returning champion at 88 pounds last year and made the move to 100 pounds for this year’s tournament. Also at 100 pounds, Caleb Noble of Illinois defeated Gavin Landers of Iowa in the quarterfinals to stay in contention for the Triple Crown award.
In the 113-pound weight class, Joseph Uhorchuk of Tennessee bested 2022 14U National Champion Dawson Youngblut of Iowa in the round of 16. Uhorchuk then brought down Chase Walker ofTennessee in a 6-3 decision match. He will face Landon Sidun of Pennsylvania in the semifinals on Wednesday morning.
At 120 pounds, returning 106-pound champion in 2022 Jayden Raney of Kentucky is one of the last athletes remaining that is aiming to repeat. Raney reached the semifinals by defeating Devon Miller of Oklahoma in a 4-2 decision bout. On the other side of the bracket, returning 100-pound champion in 2022 Michael Romero of California who made it into the semfinals following a 12-2 technical fall victory over Jason Hampton of Illinois.
Travis Cardenas of Arizona, a 2022 14U National Champion, finds a spot in the semifinals at 126 pounds and will match up against Timothy Koester of Iowa in his next match.
The 138-pound weight class saw Noah Bull of Utah fall short in the semifinals and head to the consolation bracket during the round of 16. Bull is a 2022 14U National Champion that moved up to the 16U division for this event.
At 152 pounds, Kyler Knaack of Iowa got past Jimmy Mastny of Illinois by 11-0 technical fall. Knaack moves into the semifinal round and will match up against Nicholas Singer of Pennsylvania Wednesday morning, keeping him in the running to win the Triple Crown award.
Bradley Rodriguez-Little of Minnesota reached the 160-pound semifinals by winning his quarterfinal match over Carl J Betz III of New Jersey. Rodriguez-Little remains eligible to win the Triple Crown award with the victory. 2022 14U National Champion Aaron Stewart of Illinois meets Emmitt Sherlock of Maryland in the semifinals.
At 195 pounts, returning champion Dreshaun Ross of Iowa made his way back into the semifinals with an 11-0 technical fall against Jaxon Penovich of Illinois. He will see the 2022 14U National Champion at 195 pounds in David Calkins of California. Another 2022 14U National Champion is on the other side of the bracket in the semifinals as Denarri Mickel of Iowa won the title at 250 pounds last year.
Milan Colvin of Kansas and Jacob Levy of Georgia both advanced to the semifinals at 285 pounds. Colvin is eligble for the Triple Crown award, and Levy was the runner up in this tournament last year.
Five 14U National Champions that moved up into 16U Nationals remain in the championship side of the tournament. Of the 16 athletes that entered the tournament in hopes of winning the Triple Crown award, just five remain in contention.
In the team standings, Pennsylvania leads with 56 points and nine athletes in the semifinals. Ohio follows with 49 points and seven semifinalists. The three teams that are in a tie for third with 35 points are California, Illinois and Iowa.
