Senior National Team members Russell, Perez III, Scott and Lautt to lead U.S. U23 World Greco-Roman team in Finland

The roster has been finalized for the U.S. Greco-Roman team slated to compete at the 2023 U23 World Championships in Tampere, Finland, in October.
Four Senior Greco-Roman National Team members have accepted their position on the 2023 U23 World Team, based upon the Team Selection Procedures.
Two of these Senior National Team members recently placed second in Final X and are now ranked No. 2 on the 2023-24 Senior National Greco-Roman Team, Robert Perez III at 67 kg and Justus Scott at 72 kg. Both Perez and Scott were also 2023 U.S. Senior Open champions.
Perez was seventh in the 2022 U20 World Championships, and won the 2023 U20 World Team Trials, to earn a repeat trip there. He was also a member of the 2019 U17 World Team. Perez won a silver medal at the 2022 Pan American U20 Championships.
Scott also won a gold medal at the 2023 Pan American Senior Championships. He also competed in the 2021 U20 World Championships. Scott attended Baker University before joining the U.S. Army WCAP program.
The other two Senior National Team members, who finished No. 3 on the 2023-24 National Team ladder, are on the U23 World Team: Camden Russell at 55 kg and Cade Lautt at 97 kg.
Russell was eighth at the 2022 U23 World Championships. He was also third at the 2023 U.S. Open and fifth at the 2022 U.S. Open. He competed for Iowa Western CC.
Lautt was second in the 2023 World Team Trials Challenge Tournament and was seventh in the 2023 U.S. Senior Open. He was third in the 2019 Junior Nationals. Lautt competes for the University of North Carolina.
The six other U23 World Team members earned their berths by winning the 2023 U23 World Team Trials in Geneva, Ohio in June: Phillip Moomey (60 kg), Jordan Hamdan (63 kg), Payton Jacobson (77 kg), Tyler Eischens (82 kg), Michael Altomer (87 kg) and Kaleb Reeves (130 kg).
Moomey was also ninth in the 2022 U23 World Championships and competed in the 2017 U17 World Championships. He was third in the 2022 Junior Pan American Games. He wrestles for Cornell University.
Hamden was also third in Greco-Roman at the 2021 U20 Nationals, as well as third at the 2018 Junior Nationals. He competes for Michigan State University.
Jacobson was eighth at the 2022 U20 World Championships. He was third in both the 2022 and 2023 U.S. Open. He was also second in the 2021 Pan American U20 Championships. He is on the Northern Michigan University National Training Site Greco-Roman team.
Eischens was fifth in the 2022 U.S. Senior Open. He was also a 2019 U20 Nationals champion and was second in the 2018 Junior Nationals. Eischens was a Pac-12 champion for Stanford University in 2022.
Altomer, in addition to winning the U23 World Team Trials this year, was also the champion at the U20 World Team Trials. He was a 2022 Junior Nationals champion.
Reeves was fifth in the 2022 U.S. Senior Open. He was third in the 2022 Bill Farrell Memorial International. Reeves placed third in the 2022 NCAA Div. III Nationals for Coe College.
The U23 World Championships will be held Oct. 23-29 at Tampere Ice Stadium in Tampere, Finland. The Greco-Roman team is scheduled to compete October 27-29.

USA Wrestling has now announced all three of the U.S. U23 World Team rosters with men’s freestyle on Tuesday and women’s freestyle on Wednesday.
