Our next edition of Who's Number One (WNO) is shaping up to not only be the event of the year, but one of the best events of all-time. Going down on October 2nd in Austin, so far the only announced match is the main event, a clash between 2019 ADCC champions Gordon Ryan and Matheus Diniz.
Our second match to announce is a particularly intriguing matchup, pitting one of the best up and coming grapplers up with a world class athlete in freestyle and folkstyle wrestling. This match will be under normal submission only grappling rules, with no hybrid ruleset that is usually used when different styles meet.
Tony Ramos was an NCAA champion while wrestling for the University of Iowa, racking up a 120-14 record during his time in Iowa City. Post college Tony also went on to represent the USA at the World Championships in freestyle wrestling. He is currently serving as a coach at the University of North Carolina.
Props to Tony for stepping up to go against one of the best no-gi competitors in a straight up grappling match, but he is going to have his hands full with Nicky Ryan. The junior Danaher Death Squad member is a former ADCC trials champion, known as a submission hunter and always looking for the finish.
This match will be 15 minutes long and under submission only rules, with a judges decision should it go the duration. Stay tuned for even more matches being added to this already stacked event in the coming days!
