On posts to its social media platforms, the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club announced today that it has welcomed 2023 World champion and 2024 Olympian Zain Retherford as a coach with the club.
The post on X said “Olympian. World Champion. 2x Hodge Winner. 3x NCAA Champion. Now, Coach Retherford.”
Retherford competed for the Titan Mercury WC and the Nittany Lion WC during his international freestyle wrestling career. He most recently wrestled at 65 kg at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France on August 10.
He was a 2023 World champion and 2022 World silver medalist, both at 70 kg. He also competed at the 2017 and 2019 World Championships at 65 kg. Retherford was a 2012 U17 World champion.
Retherford was a three-time NCAA champion and two-time Hodge Trophy winner for Penn State, and hails from Benton, Pa.
