Sports are known to promote positive educational, social, and emotional outcomes, as well as overall health in youth. However, children living in poverty are 6x more likely to quit sports because of the associated costs. Beat the Streets is working to change that statistic and team up with generous supporters to supply 2,000 student-athletes with new gear this wrestling season.
In the past three years, Beat the Streets National was able to donate more that one million dollars in new gear to youth in the United States. Launched in 2021, the GearUp! Initiative was created with an effort to supply student athletes with the gear they need to ensure success on and off the wrestling mat.
This year, the organization aims to raise 75 thousand dollars to provide enough gear to 1,500 youth from underserved communities across the nation. A 50 dollar donation provides one Beat the Streets athlete with $250 worth of new wrestling gear this season.
The annual GearUp! Initiative is fueled by an annual crowdfunding campaign that has collectively raised over $200k in its first three years. This year’s campaign ends on December 30.
