On Saturday, five women’s college post-season tournaments were held, three NAIA Conference Championships and two NCWWC Regional Championships.

NAIA No. 6 Texas Wesleyan won the Sooner Athletic Conference title, hosted by Central Christian. NAIA No. 3 Grand View won the Heart of America Conference title, hosted by William Penn. NAIA No. 17 Hastings won the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference crown, hosted by Doane.

NCAA No. 7 Sacred Heart won the NCWWC Region I title, hosted by Lock Haven. NCAA No. 16 Tiffin won the NCWWC Region III championship, hosted by Gannon.

The top four placewinners in each weight class at the NCWWC Regionals advanced to the NCWWC Nationals in Council Bluffs, Iowa, March 8-9.

The NAIA Conterence Championships each have specific allocations (by weight class) for the NAIA National Championships in Jamestown, N.D., March 8-9.

Texas Wesleyan wins NAIA Sooner AC with three champions, runner-up Missouri Baptist has five titlists

MCPHERSON, Kansas – Led by three champions and 11 NAIA automatic qualifiers, NAIA No. 6 Texas Wesleyan repeated as Sooner Athletic Conference women’s wrestling champions on Saturday.

Texas Wesleyan scored 179.5 points, ahead of runner-up NAIA No. 10 Missouri Baptist with 168.5 points and third-place NAIA No. 7 Oklahoma City with 122.5 points.

Claiming gold medals for Texas Wesleyan were Jasmine Howard (109), Elizabeth Duvall (130) and Mea Mohler (143). Mohler repeated as Sooner AC champion.

Missouri Baptist, which punched 10 automatic qualifiers into the NAIA Nationals, was led by individual champions Alyssa Quezaire (101), Juliana Diaz (116), Tiyahna Askew (136), Josette Partney (155) and Faith Macharia (170). Quezaire, Diaz and Partney were repeat conference champions.

Oklahoma City placed seven into the NAIA Nationals, with one individual champion, Sophia Smith (123). The other champion was Samyra Thomas of Jarvis Christian (191), who defended her conference title.

The conference was awarded 30 NAIA National allocations, which are distributed by weight class. Additional athletes could be added to the NAIA Nationals field as at-large selections, announced by a committee at 5:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

Grand View repeats as NAIA Heart of America champions with two titlists, runner-up William Penn gets four champions

OSKALOOSA, Iowa – Led by two champions and nine automatic NAIA Nationals bids, NAIA No. 3 Grand View repeated as Heart of America Conference women’s wrestling champions on Saturday.

Grand View scored 185 points, with NAIA No. 8 William Penn in second with 171.5 points and NAIA No. 13 Missouri Valley in third with 137.5 points.

Individual champions for Grand View were Krista Warren (143) and Abby McIntyre (170). McIntyre, who repeated as Heart of America champion, pinned NAIA No. 1 ranked Ashley Lekas of William Penn in the finals in 1:45.

William Penn led the conference with four individual champions: Mia Palumbo (109), Joanna Vanderwood (123), Devin Patton (130) and Adaugo Nwachukwu (136). Palumbo and Nwachukwu were conference champions last year when they competed for Iowa Wesleyan, a college which has closed down. Nwachukwu is a two-time NAIA national champion.

Missouri Valley had a pair of champions, Sage Beltran (101) and Elise Falcetti (155). Other individual champions were Katherine Heath of Baker (116) and Joanna Hendricks of Waldorf (191).

The conference was awarded 29 NAIA National allocations, which are distributed by weight class. Additional athletes could be added to the NAIA Nationals field as at-large selections, announced by a committee at 5:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

NAIA No. 17 Hastings repeats as KCAC champions, NAIA No. 18 Ottawa takes second place

CRETE, Neb. – NAIA No. 17 Hastings repeated as women’s wrestling team champions at the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference on Saturday.

Hastings scored 175.5 points, ahead of NAIA No. 20 Ottawa in second place with 174 points, and NAIA No. 19 Doane in third place with 142.5 points. Seven different teams had at least one individual champion, and seven of the champions were either freshmen or red-shirt freshmen.

Hastings had a pair of freshmen champions, Reagen Gallaway (143) and Victoria Guinard (170), and came away with four NAIA Nationals automatic qualifiers, the most of any KCAC program.

Ottawa also had two freshmen champions, Addison Saporito (116) and Peyton Hand (130), and earned three automatic qualifiers.

Doane’s lone individual champion was Cristelle Rodriguez (123), who repeated as KCAC champion.


St. Mary’s, which placed fourth, had a pair of champions, Alexsys Jacquez (109) and Lessly Sandoval (191).

Other individual champions were Esther Walker of Midland (101), Gianna Moreno of Friends (136) and Allyssa Johnson of Jamestown (155). Walker repeated as conference champion.

The conference was awarded 19 NAIA National allocations, which are distributed by weight class. Additional athletes could be added to the NAIA Nationals field as at-large selections, announced by a committee at 5:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

NCAA No. 7 Sacred Heart win NCWWC Region I, NCAA No. 8 Lock Haven places second

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – NCAA No. 7 Sacred Heart secured four individual champions to win the NCWWC Region I Championships on Saturday. It was the second straight year that Sacred Heart has won a regional title.

Sacred Heart scored 203 points, ahead of runner-up NCAA No. 8 Lock Haven with 154 points and NCAA No. 20 East Stroudsburg with 142 points.

Individual champions for Sacred Heart were Aaliyah Payne-Parris (101), Alexandra Fitzgerald (123), Madison Sandquist (155) and Love Daley (170). Payne-Parris and Sandquist won regional titles for the second straight year.  

Lock Haven champions were Kaelani Shufeldt (109) and Grace Stem (143), both who repeated as regional champions.

East Stroudsburg wss led by champion Zoe Gress (130). New Jersey City, which placed eighth in the standings, earned two individual titles, Izabella Frezzo (116) and Sandra Guerrero (191). The other individual champion was Zoey Lints of Elmira College (143).

Sacred Heart lead all Region I teams with 13 qualifiers, followed by East Stroudsburg with eight and Lock Haven with six. There were 10 different colleges which earned at least one NCWWC qualifier.

NCAA No. 16 Tiffin wins NCWWC Region III, 10 different teams qualify athletes for nationals

ERIE, Pa. – In the NCWWC Region III Championships, which was very balanced and featured 10 teams earning at least two qualifiers for the national championships, NCAA No. 16 Tiffin won the team title on Saturday.

Tiffin scored 134 points, with runner-up Adrian with 113.5 points and third-place Albion with 109 points.

Leading Tiffin were champions Jenavi Alejandro (109) and Ariana Carrasquillo (130). Alejandro was a Regional champion last year, as well. Tiffin punched six athletes into the finals, and qualified six for the NCWWC Nationals.

Adrian also had a pair of individual champions, Carleigh Czerneski (116) and Nyla Burgess (155) and qualified five athletes for the nationals.

Albion had the most individual champions with three: Gabriella Motz (101), Hannah Arledge-Teran (123) and  Logan Ryan (191) and will bring four athletes to the NCWWC Nationals.

Gannon, which pushed six athletes into the national championships, had a pair of champions, Lili Ujfalvi (143) and Schyler Caringi (170).

D’Youville, which will bring five athletes to the NCWWC Nationals, had the other individual champion, Madison Wellen (136).
