Hunter Garvin (North Liberty, Iowa) has been named the USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week, presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare, on June 5, 2024.

Garvin was the sole athlete to win titles in both Greco-Roman and men’s freestyle between both the U20 and U23 divisions at the 2024 U20 World Team Trials and U23 Nationals in Geneva, Ohio.

Garvin showcased resilience after falling behind early in both of his best-of-three matches in Greco-Roman to secure the series at 77 kg over Brendon Abdon. Garvin trailed Abdon 3-0 in the first period before rallying to an 8-4 lead and ultimately winning by fall at 5:40. In the second match, Garvin once again fell behind early, but kept the score tight before pulling ahead in the second period for an 8-4 victory.

Garvin also delivered an outstanding performance in the U23 men’s freestyle tournament. Competing at 74 kg, he dominated the finals series against South Dakota State’s Cael Swensen. In their first match, Garvin narrowly edged out Swensen in a 10-9 decision. He then secured his second title with an impressive 14-1 technical fall in their second bout for the series sweep.
