Jordyn Raney named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare

Jordyn Raney (Sturgis, Ky./Union County) has been named the USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week, presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare, on May 1, 2024.

Raney was a double champion at the U17 World Team Trials as part of the Pritchard Companies U.S. Open is Las Vegas, Nevada, last week.


At 60 kg, 2023 U17 World Greco-Roman champion Jordyn Raney swept his Greco-Roman series in two straight matches over Manuel Saldate of Gold Rush Wrestling, a 2023 16U Nationals freestyle runner-up. Raney scored a pair of technical fall victories, winning 9-0 in the first match and 10-0 in the second match. Raney was named Outstanding Wrestler in the tournament for his performance.

In men’s freestyle action, Raney faced his twin brother Jayden Raney in the 60 kg championship series. Jordyn came out on top in the best-of-three series, with 11-8 and 16-7 wins to claim his second U17 World team spot of the weekend.

Jordyn finished with six wins in Greco-Roman and seven wins in freestyle at the U17 World Team Trials, winning each match before the freestyle championship series against his brother without giving up a point. He posted 10 technical falls across both styles.
