WESTFIELD, Indiana – The dual meet between Pennsylvania Blue and Illinois for the 14U Girls National Freestyle Duals team title started off like it was going to be a very competitive battle.
Pennsylvania Blue opened with a pin from Camilla Hathaway in just 18 seconds at 143 pounds for a 5-0 lead. Illinois rebounded with a powerful 11-1 technical fall victory by Alexis Penley at 163, tightening the score to 5-4 in favor of Pennsylvania Blue.
Then suddenly, the match became a blow out.
Pennsylvania Blue went on a winning streak, and a pinning streak, that could not be stopped, and ended up dominating Illinois by a 58-18 final score.
Pennsylvania Blue went on to win the next nine matches in a row, including seven pins, a technical fall and a shutout victory. The streak started with a pin by Evelyn Sheer at 183 in just 27 seconds.
Joining Sheer with a pin during the nine-bout winning streak were Kelly Zacherl (76), Cidney Schaffer (81), Gianna Allen (84), Brooklyn Henry (87), Guilianna Latshaw (90) and Riley Karwowski (93).
Most of the pins were in matches in which the Pennsylvania wrestler was very much in control. However, at 76 pounds, Zacherl and Charleigh Little were tied at 5-5 in the second period, before Zacherl scored six straight points and secured the pin with just three seconds left in the bout.
At 93 pounds, Riley Karwowski of Pennsylvania fell behind Jade Hardee of Illinois 8-4, before Karwowski took down Hardee and secured the pin at 2:59.
Also during the nine-match streak, McKenzie Astorino (71) scored a technical fall and Isla Silva (97) won by a 6-0 shutout.
Illinois’ Charlotte Nold halted the streak at 102 with a pin over Hadley Heaster in 3:16 at 102. Illinois actually won three of the final five matches, all with bonus points. In the final two matches of the dual, Illinois winners were Rain Scott (121), by pin, and Anastasia Rodnikova (127), by technical fall.
The last two Pennsylvania Blue winners were Emma Grimes (108) and Mimi Skowronski (115), both who secured pins.
To reach the finals in the Gold/Silver Pool A, top seeded Pennsylvania Blue smashed all three opponents, beating Oklahoma, Arizona and Wisconsin by a combined team score of 173-44. This moved them into the finals dual.
In Pool B, three of the four teams finished with 2-2 records, Illinois, Washington and Kansas. Based upon the tie-breaking rules, Illinois advanced to the first place match, Kansas to the third-place match and Washington to the fifth-place match.
Kansas secured third place with a 38-30 win over Wisconsin. Kansas had a streak of six straight wins from Kennedy Portlock (84), Hailey Estrada (87), Brielynn Jackson (90), Krislynn Martinez (Ratliff) (93), Presley Beard (97) and
Reanna Spangler (102) to secure the win, although Wisconsin won the last four matches.
Fifth place went to Washington, which stopped Oklahoma in their medal match dual, 42-24. Washington won five matches in a row from Queen Moniz (183), Kassidy Davis (71), Lanaia Selig (76), Faylinn Smith (81) and Maisie Elliott (84) and kept the lead the rest of the way.
Arizona stopped Texas 44-22 in the seventh place match, getting pins from Sunny Robles (183), Miabella Martinez (108), Hannah Naccarati-Cholo (115) and Kinzley Sanchez (127).

All of the action in both 16U and 14U divisions will be broadcast live by FloWrestling https://flosports.link/49x7MIx
