Nwachukwu gets on the board 11 seconds into the match with a step out point, 1-0. Zelenykh goes arm drag to a double leg finish, taking Nwachukwu to the back for four. The U.S. corner is challenging with 35 seconds left in the first. The challenge is lost, so it’s 5-1 Zelenykh, and we head to the period break. Zelenykh is put on the shot clock with 2:12 left in the match. The shot clock expires to give Nwachukwu a point. Nwachukwu drives an underhook through to a step out to cut the lead to 5-3. 53 kg R16 – Elena Ivaldi (United States) dec. Yusmy Chaparro Urrego (Colombia), 8-8

Ivaldi works hard to finish a single leg on the edge just over a minute into the match to take a 2-0 lead. Chaparro Urrego finishes a single leg to tie things up. Evaldi put herself in danger position trying a counter the single leg and had to belly out. Ivaldi comes back with a clean single leg finish to regain the lead, 4-2. Double leg off the whistle for Chaparro Urrego to take the lead back, 4-4, going into the break. Ivaldi trapped underneath off her own shot attempt, Chaparro Urrego hits a head-in-the-hole counter for two. Ivaldi drops to a low single from an underhook tie to get her first points of the second period, then gets countered to her back on a leg lace attempt. Chaparro Urrego leads 8-6 with 1:15 to go in the match. Ivaldi is back in front, 8-8, with another underhook throw by takedown. Ivaldi hangs on to a single leg as she finishes out the match and get the criteria win.

68 kg Repechage – Brooklyn Hays (United States) dec. Luciana Beda (Moldova), 7-0

Beda is put on the shot clock at the 4:23 mark in the first period of a scoreless match. Hays is close to converting a single leg from her underhook ties but can’t finish. Beda takes injury time with four seconds left on the shot clock and appears to have hit her head. The shot clock expires, and Hays takes over the lead, 1-0. It’s 1a one-point lead for Hays at the break. She was the aggressor throughout the first period. Hays comes out in the second period with her double unders, snapping them down to a go-behind finish for the takedown. She adds a second go-behind takedown, this time off a Beda shot attempt, 5-0.
