SPOKANE, Wash. – The most anticipated championship series at the U17 level between defending champion Hailey Delgado of Texas and 2023 U17 World bronze medalist Jaclyn Bouzakis of Pennsylvania turned out to be a one-sided situation in favor of Bouzakis.

After earning 9-0 and 8-1 decisions to sweep the 46 kg finals in two matches, Bouzakis was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the U17 division at the 2025 U.S. Marine Corps Women’s National Championships. Bouzakis finished with a 6-0 record, three technical falls, plus the impressive series win against Delgado.

Bouzakis booked a return trip to the U17 World Championships, which are set for Athens, Greece, this summer. She was a bronze medalist at the 2023 U17 World Championships and a U17 Pan American champion last year.

Finding places atop the podium for a second-consecutive year were past U17 World champions Morgan Turner of Illinois at 49 kg and Taina Fernandez of Maryland at 61 kg, plus Epenesa Elison of California at 53 kg. All three were untested in the championship round held on Saturday morning at The Podium. Both Fernandez and Elison swept their series with a pair of technical falls. Turner logged a nine-point win in round one and iced her series with an 11-0 technical fall.

Two finals pairings needed the full three matches to decide things. After getting teched in round one of the 65 kg finals by Wisconsin’s Riley Hanrahan, Fargo champion Violette Lasure of Pennsylvania took the next two matches, 11-9 and 15-4. Minnesota’s Cassandra Gonzales was forced to injury default in round one of the 69 kg finals to Fargo champion Janiya Johnson of Tennessee. After getting stitched up, Gonzales battled back to a pair of decisions, 5-1 and 2-2, to secure her spot on the U17 World Team.

Fargo champion Emma Bacon, who was a U17 Pan American champion in 2021, made a serious push for the OW award after completing the finals sweep of Oregon’s Zorina Johnson with 12-1 and 13-0 technical fall wins. She bonus her way to gold with a 7-0 record, a mark that included five techs and two pins.
