Sibomana named OW, talented U.S. wrestlers among champions at Journeymen World Classic in New York

Many of the nation’s best high school athletes competed against top international competitors at the Journeymen World Classic at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. on Saturday.

In the boys’ high school division, seven of the individual champions were from the United States, featuring nationally ranked stars from all across the nation.

Individual boys high school champions from the USA were

• No. 17 Benjamin Weader (Integrity, 160A)

There were six international champions this year, Papikyan Armen of Armenia (126), Nurdinov Nursadyk of Kyrgyzstan (152), Manuel Wagin of Germany (170), Yepremyan Razmik of Armenia (190), Todua Aleksi of Georgia (225) and Narantulga Darmaabazar of Mongolia (285).

There were two Outstanding Wrestlers named for this event in the boys high school division, Dunia Sibomana of Long Beach, the champion at 121 pounds and Nurdinov Nursadyk of Kyrgyzstan at 152 pounds.

The girls high school division featured nationally ranked stars. Champions were Jasmine Brucato of Pit Crew WC (100), Alessia De Lucia of Rednose Wrestling School (107), Kayla Batres of South Side Wrestling Club (114), Madalyn Hill of Journeymen (126), Kesi Tsarni of Capital Wrestling Club (138), Kiara Richard of Hammer Wrestling (152), and Brynn Shepardson of Journeymen/Little Falls (180).

The Journeymen event for women with international competitors occurs in the fall.

Some of the weight classes in the boys high school division had A and B divisions. The winners of the B divisions on the high school level were Luca Popolizio of Journeymen Wrestling (121B), Jayden Tyson of Copiague Wrestling Club (132B), Shane Degl of Empire (138B), Grayson Eggleston of Journeymen Wrestling (145B), Benjamin Koch of Blair Academy (152B), Vincent Rivera of Xavier High School (160B), and Markus Fletcher of Askren Wrestling Academy (170B).

Dual meets featuring international and U.S. competitors were held on Friday night. A Middle School division was also held on Saturday.
