QUERETARO, Mexico – With just a four-athlete team, the United States won the men’s team title at the 2025 Senior Pan American Beach Championships on Sunday.

Three U.S. wrestlers powered their way to the finals and came home with silver medals, Justin Benjamin of Illinois at 70 kg, Tyson Beauperthuy of Colorado at 90 kg and Kyle Ferriter of Colorado at Over 90 kg. All three won their first four matches, before falling to high-level opponents in the gold-medal round.

Benjamin won his three matches in Group A to advance to the semifinals, where he scored a 3-0 victory over Donovan Solorzano Amaya of Honduras. In the championship finals, he lost a 2-2 criteria decision to Augustin Destribats of Argentina, a 2020 Olympian in freestyle wrestling.

Benjamin was the champion at the 2024 Acapulco Beach World Series in Acapulco, Mexico. He placed a strong fourth at his weight class in the final Beach World Series standings for 2024.

Beauperthuy swept three matches in Group B. In the semifinals, Beauperthuy scored a quick 3-0 decision over Oscar Godos of Mexico in 51 seconds. In the championship finals, he was edged by Steven Rodriguez Torreyes of Venezuela, 3-2.

Beauperthuy won a Senior bronze medal at the 2023 Beach World Series stop in Constanta, Romania. He wrestled in Greco-Roman at the Pan American U23 Championships on Thursday. A student-athlete at Doane University, he is a two-time NAIA runner-up in folkstyle.

Ferriter won Group B with three straight victories. In the semifinals, he stopped Ulises Sanchez Robles of Mexico, 3-2. He lost a tight 1-0 match in the finals against Jose Diaz Robertti of Venezuela, a 2016 Olympian in men’s freestyle.

Bryan Coll of New York lost his only match, a knockout bout at 70 kg, and finished 10th in the standings.

The men from Team USA finished with 60 points to claim the team title, ahead of host Mexico with 55 points in second place, and Venezuela in third place with 50 points. There were 11 teams entered in the men’s tournament.

The USA did not have any entries in the women’s tournament, which was won by host Mexico.
