Finals set in Girls National Recruiting Showcase; Bouzakis, Bacon, Juitt, Matakaiongo seek to repeat

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - All four of the returning champions in the field have powered their way into Thursday’s finals at the 2025 Girls National High School Recruiting Showcase.

This is the largest and most competitive Girls Showcase event in history with more than 150 state champions and over 100 nationally ranked athletes in the field.

Looking to repeat as Showcase champions are Jaclyn Bouzakis of Pennsylvania (100), Emma Bacon of Pennsylvania (125), Louise Juitt of Missouri (140) and Tilisa Matakaiongo of Utah (235).

There will be a big showdown in the 100-pound finals, as No. 1 nationally ranked Bouzakis will battle No. 2 ranked Katey Valdez of Colorado. Both won their semifinals matches by 10-0 technical falls. Bouzakis made the 2025 U.S. U17 World Team two weeks ago. Valdez, a Junior Nationals champion, wrestled most of the season at 105 pounds, but came down for this event.

Bacon also earned a berth on the 2025 U17 World Team earlier this spring. She will battle No. 10 nationally ranked Zorina Johnson of Washington in the finals. Both won their semifinals by pin, with Bacon pinning Madilyn Peach of Wisconsin and Johnson stopping Ruby Julien-Newsom of California.

Juitt, who has a No. 4 national ranking, was powerful in her semifinals victory, a pin over Iowa’s Greta Brus in 140 pounds. Her finals opponent is No. 12 ranked Greta Garbuzovas of Georgia, who knocked off No. 5 ranked Amelia Fawcett of Alaska by pin in 5:55.

Joining Bouzakis and Bacon as 2025 U17 World Team members in the Showcase finals is Taina Fernandez of Maryland at 135 pounds. Fernandez is the No. 1 Pound-4-Pound high school wrestler in the nation and a 2024 U17 World champion. Fernandez won three straight matches by 10-0 technical falls, and will face No. 9 Morgan Lucio of Arizona in the finals.

Brooke Huffman of Wisconsin, No. 1 ranked nationally at 190 pounds, powered into the Showcase finals, where she will battle No. 14 Makayla Vasser of Nebraska.

One of the big wins in the semifinals came at 105 pounds, when No. 11 nationally ranked Ella Cohen, the 2025 California champion, defeated No. 2 ranked Madison Niewenhuis of Michigan, 6-0. Cohen had an effective counter offense and won the key scrambles. Cohen will battle No. 29 ranked Kirra Mitchell of Georgia in the finals.

It will be an all-California finals at 110 pounds, as No. 8 nationally ranked Aubree Gutierrez will battle No. 12 ranked Sophia Marie Gonzales. Both won their semifinal matches by fall. Gutierrez was a 2025 California state champion.

Ryen Hickey of Colorado, who holds a No. 23 national ranking, won the wildest semifinals match of the session, edging No. 3 ranked Margaret Buurma of Michigan, 12-11 at 145 pounds. Her finals opponent is No. 25 Eve Skrocki of Iowa.

One of the great things about the Showcase is that it is a great opportunity for athletes to receive national recognition for themselves.

There are two weight classes where both finalists are not in the most current national rankings but will be in the next one for sure. At 120 pounds, Maya Fiodorova of Nevada will battle Ava Ebrahimi of California. At 130 pounds, Iyanna Crawford of North Carolina will wrestle Danica Torres of Arizona. These finalists beat a number of nationally ranked opponents today.

The Girls National High School Recruiting Showcase will conclude on Thursday during the second session, which begins at 4:00 p.m, with the medal matches, and conclude at 6:00 p.m. with the championship finals.

All of the action will be broadcast live on FloWrestling.
