As we head into week 16 of the college wrestling season, the competition heats up with highly anticipated matchups and conference showdowns. Here’s a look at a few events coming up this weekend.
No. 1 Penn State vs. No. 6 Ohio State
Date: Friday, February 14

The Penn State Nittany Lions head west to Columbus, Ohio, for a highly anticipated Big Ten showdown against No. 6 Ohio State on Friday night. Penn State remains undefeated with a 12-0 overall record and a 6-0 mark in the Big Ten, while Ohio State holds a 13-2 overall record and is 5-2 in the Big Ten. Wrestling fans can look forward to a rematch between No. 1 Jesse Mendez of Ohio State and No. 3 Beau Bartlett of Penn State at 141 pounds, a replay of last year’s NCAA final where Mendez claimed the national title. At 149 pounds, Penn State’s Shayne Van Ness matches up against No. 7 Dylan D’Emilio of OSU. Another exciting matchup features No. 5 Carson Kharchla of Ohio State battling No. 2 Levi Haines of Penn State at 174 pounds, and at 285 pounds, No. 9 Nick Feldman of Ohio State will take on No. 2 Greg Kerkvliet of Penn State. One of the biggest tests of the week happens on Friday, when No. 3 Iowa heads to the Twin Cities to battle No. 6 Minnesota. The Hawkeyes are 11-1 overall and 5-1 in the Big Ten, and coming off of a 19-16 victory over No. 7 Nebraska last week. The Gophers, holding an overall record of 10-1 and 5-0 in conference, picked up a pair of victories over No. 4 Ohio State and No. 28 Purdue last weekend. Iowa has dominated the all-time series, leading 80-28-1 and winning the last 10 meetings, including five straight in Minneapolis. Fans can expect high-ranked matchups, including No. 1 Gable Steveson facing No. 11 Ben Kueter, with action set for 8 p.m. CT on Friday night.
Navy at No. 24 Army West Point

Navy, with a 5-3 overall record and an unbeaten 4-0 in the EIWA, features a trio of ranked wrestlers in No. 7 Josh Koderhandt at 141, No. 14 Danny Wask at 174, and No. 32 Payton Thomas at 197. Army, holding a 6-3 overall record and 3-2 in the EIWA, is coming off a loss at Lehigh. On Sunday, App State hosts Davidson for the Hurricane Relief Match/Senior Day. The Mountaineers hold an impressive 7-3 overall record and undefeated 6-0 record in SoCon action. Fresh off a 24-17 victory against Chattanooga, the Mountaineers are led by standout wrestlers No. 7 Will Miller at 165 pounds and No. 27 Luke Uliano at 174 pounds. Davidson, with a 3-12 overall record and 1-5 in SoCon action, looks to rebound after a 3-42 loss at Bellarmine. They face VMI on Friday before their showdown with App State.
