INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA has released updated standings for the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Awards that will be awarded in March at the respective Division I, II and III Wrestling Championships.
The inaugural NCAA Wrestling Awards were presented at the 2012 wrestling championships.
The three awards, given in each division, honor the Most Dominant Wrestler as well as the student-athletes that have accumulated the most falls and the most technical falls throughout the course of the regular and postseasons.
For results to be counted for the awards they must come against opponents in the same division (i.e. Division II vs. Division II). Ties in the falls and tech falls categories are broken based on the aggregate time.
This week features the third standings of the Most Dominant Wrestler award, which features a 16-match minimum to qualify for the standings.
The Most Dominant Wrestler standings are calculated by adding the total number of team points awarded through match results and dividing that number by the total number of matches wrestled. Points per match are awarded as follows.
* Fall, forfeit, injury default or DQ = 6 points (-6 points for a loss)
* Tech falls = 5 points (-5 points for a loss)
* Major decision = 4 points (-4 points for a loss)
* Decision = 3 points (-3 points for a loss)
In Division I, Oklahoma State heavyweight Wyatt Hendrickson remains on top with 5.24 points per match. Penn State’s Carter Starocci has leapt into second place at 5.06.
Division II remains a tight race with a pair of 184-pounders holding the top two spots. West Liberty’s Ty McGeary leads with 5.21 points per match and Kutztown’s Matt Weinberg follows with 5.06.
In Division III, RIT’s Josh Harkless continues to lead with 5.57 points per match. Merchant Marine’s Tyler Withers has regained the second position at 5.42.
In Division I falls, Kelvin Griffin of Lehigh continues to hold the top spot for the fifth straight week. The 149-pounder has 17 falls in 52:21. Bellarmine heavyweight Daulton Mayer trails by just two.
The top four in Division II remained unchanged this week. King (Tennessee)’s Trent Mahoney leads that group with 13 falls in 42:02.
The falls leaders race in Division III is in flux weekly. Myles Leonard from Springfield hold onto the top spot for the third consecutive week with 21 falls in 41:05. The field behind him continues to shift as three wrestlers trail by two while one, Merchant Marine’s Tyler Withers, trails by just one.
The top three in Division I tech falls stayed the same this week. Mitchell Mesenbrink of Penn State has 14 while Purdue’s Matt Ramos and Minnesota’s Max McEnelly hold second and third, respectively.
In Division II, the tech falls race continues to be tight. Drury’s Will Kuster has moved in front with 10 in 52:19 while Max Ramberg of Augustana (South Dakota) has 10 in 56:31. Last week’s frontrunner, Isham Peace from Lander is third with nine tech falls.
Division III saw no movement in the top six spots. Avery Leonard of SUNY Oneonta and Joziah Fry of Johnson & Wales (Providence) have each held their spots in the top two for the last five weeks.
