Two-time age-group World medalist Amani Jones fends off a single leg in the 55 kg semifinals at the 2025 USMC Women’s Nationals
SPOKANE, Wash. – Reigning U20 World champion Cristelle Rodriguez and two-time age-group World medalist Amani Jones will headline tomorrow morning’s best-of-three championship finals in the U23 division at the 2025 U.S. Marine Corps Women’s National Championships.
Jones is the defending 55 kg champion and U23 World bronze medalist in the weight. Rodriguez took the 55 kg title at the U20 level last year and went on to claim the U20 World title. Neither wrestler gave up a point during Friday’s festivities at The Podium, with six-of-seven bouts ending early, 10-0. The lone decision between the two was a 7-0 win for Jones against Pennsylvania’s Montana DeLawder in the semifinals.
Both Jones and Rodriguez are two-time college national champions—Jones in the NCWWC for North Central College, while Rodriguez did so at the NAIA ranks for Doane University. Both are finalists for the USA Wrestling Women’s Collegiate Wrestler of the Year Award, which will be announced next Tuesday.
Five more age-group World medalists advanced to finals and are a series win away from the U23 crown—Heather Crull at 50 kg, Alexis Janiak at 59 kg, Adaugo Nwachukwu at 62 kg, Jasmine Robinson at 72 kg and Tristan Kelly at 76 kg.
Janiak, a two-time U20 World medalist, picked up the win of the day with a 5-2 semifinal decision over 2022 U20 World silver medalist and returning tournament champion Sofia Macaluso. She will face upstart Bella Williams from Oklahoma, a U17 champion at last year’s event, in the championship series.
Crull impressed with an 18-8 semifinal win over Iowa’s 2024 NCWWC national champion Emilie Gonzalez. Coincidentally, her finals opponent was also a 2024 NCWWC national champion for Iowa, Ava Bayless. Crull won a U17 World bronze medal in 2023.
A sneaky good championship series is 62 kg with Nwachukwu taking on 2025 NCWWC champion for Grand Valley State Katerina Lange. Nwachukwu was a 2022 U20 World bronze medalist and is a four-time age-group World Team member. Lange made the 2023 U23 World Team and has won multiple international medals on the Senior level. Both women have bonused the competition thus far.
Returning U23 champion Elena Ivaldi will see North Central’s NCWWC champion Sydney Petzinger in the 53 kg finals.
Past age-group World Team members Isabella Mir and Brooklyn Hays also booked trips to the championship series.
The U23 Women’s finals and medal matches are set for 10 a.m. (PT) on Saturday at The Podium. The U23 Women’s finals will be held alongside the U17 Women’s finals.
The USMC Women’s Nationals is streaming live on FloWrestling. Brackets will be available through USA Bracketing, USA Wrestling’s new best-in-class event management software.
