SUNDSVALL, Sweden – The United States added three more U20 Greco-Roman medals on Sunday, the final day of the Sundsvall Open. The U.S. wrestlers come from the Northern Michigan University National Training Site or from the Combat WC.

Claiming a gold medal at 82 kg was Aidan Squire of the Combat WC. Squire lost the first match in his pool, but a 15-6 technical fall over Sebastian Abrant of the Finland National Team allowed him to claim his pool competition and advance to the finals. Squire claimed a 6-6 decision in the finals over Santeri Karppinen of the Finland National Team to capture the gold medal.

Silver medals were claimed by Amryn Nutter of the Combat WC at 63 kg and Gunnar Hamre of NMU-NTS at 67 kg.

Nutter competed in a four-athlete roundrobin. He won his first two bouts by technical falls, beating Matias Arpinen of Finland, 9-0 and Leo Ljungqvist of Sweden, 11-1. He was edged in his final bout by Lauri Perkka of the Finland National Team, 2-1, which resulted in his bronze medal. Perkka won a bronze in 2024 at the Arvo Haavisto Cup and was a 2023 Nordic U20 medalist.

Hamre was on fire in his pool competition, winning four straight matches by technical fall to power into the finals. In those matches, he outscored his opponents 33-0. In the championship finals, he was defeated by Sweden’s Nestori Manilla, 8-0. Manilla was fifth in the 2023 and 2022 U20 World Championships.

On Friday, U.S. wrestlers won three medals, with golds from Gabe Brown of NMU/NTS (60 kg) and Brennan Carey of NMU/NTS (130 kg) and a bronze medal from Mason Parsons of NMY/NTS (87 kg).

The Finland National Team dominated the team standings with 39 points. The U.S. club programs placed second and third, with runner-up NMU-NTS as the runner-up with 9 points and Combat WC in third with 7 points. There were 25 club and national teams entered.

The Concord Youth Center (CYC) club from California entered four athletes in the Greco-Roman U14 tournament. Sam Briggs won a silver medal at 41 kg, and the other three athletes placed in the top five of their weight class.
