Quarterfinals set at NCWA Championships as Tarleton State (men) and Washington State (women) lead team race

BOSSIER CITY, La. – The quarterfinals have been set on day one of the 2025 National Collegiate Wrestling Association Nationals (NCWA), which features non-varsity college programs competing in folkstyle wrestling. The quarterfinals have been set during Thursday’s competition.

In the men’s team race, Tarleton State of Texas leads with 73.5 points, with Apprentice School of Virginia in second with 72.5 points and Menlo College of California in third with 65 points.

In the women’s team race, Washington State leads with 35.5 points, with Tarleton State in second with 35 points and Ottawa-Arizona in third with 32 points.

All of the finalists from the 2024 NCWA Nationals who are entered again this year have reached the quarterfinals.

Returning men’s champions in the quarterfinals are Cole Thomas of Thomas More (141) and Cesar Ubico of Utah Tech (197).

The weight classes in women’s wrestling has changed this year. Returning women’s champions who powered into the quarterfinals are Liliana Voakes of Ottawa – Arizona (110), Genesis Vazquez of Washington State (117), Viveca Pannell of MIT (138), Anja Hansen of Ottawa – Arizona (138), Veloria Pannell of MIT (145), Tayleigh Robertson of Utah Tech (160) and Renaeh Ureste of UNLV (207). Ureste won her national title last year at Grays Harbor.

Men’s returning runners-up in the quarterfinals are Aiden Scheeringa of Liberty (125), Bruno Alves of Apprentice (133), Ethan Vugman of Florida (141), Keith Brubach of Slippery Rock (165) and Jonovan Smith of Caribbean (285).

Women’s returning runners-up in the quarterfinals include Jasmine Cortez of Texas State (103), Jasmine Oleson of UNLV (117), Paige Kalish of Central Florida (131), Petra Bernsten of Washington State (180) and Evelyn Coronado of Ottawa – Arizona (240).

Competition continues on Friday in both tournaments, with competition up to the semifinals on the championship side and the “blood round” on the consolation side.
