Luke Lilledahl (Penn State) celebrates after finishing third at the 2025 NCAA Div. I National Championships in Philadelphia, Pa.
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The fifth session at the NCAA Div. I National Championships features the consolation semifinals, followed by the placement matches for third, fifth and seventh. Once an athlete loses on the championship side, the next best finish is to take third place.
Third place finishers were Luke Lilledahl of Penn State (125), Zeth Romney of Cal Poly (133), Beau Bartlett of Penn State (141), Shayne Van Ness of Penn State (149), Tyler Kasak of Penn State (157), Peyton Hall of West Virginia (165), Levi Haines of Penn State (174), Max McEnelly of Minnesota (184), AJ Ferrari of CSU Bakersfield (197) and Cohlton Schultz of Arizona State (285).
The standings for the team race after the fifth session were as follows: 1. Penn State, 169.0 points, 2. Nebraska, 109.0 points, 3. Oklahoma State, 94.5 points, 4. Iowa, 77.0 points, 5. Minnesota, 51.5 points, 6. Cornell, 50.0 points, 7. Ohio State, 47.5 points, 8. Northern Iowa, 45.5 points, 9. NC State, 42.5 points, and 10. Virginia Tech, 41.0 points.
Penn State officially clinched the team title 44 minutes into the session, the 12th national title for the Nittany Lions in the last 14 seasons. The Nittany Lions also made history last night, becoming the second team in NCAA wrestling history to have 10 All-Americans in one year, a feat accomplished in 2001 by Minnesota for the first time.
In the consolation semifinals, No. 1 Kasak of Penn State battled No. 2 Meyer Shapiro of Cornell for a spot in the third place match. Kasak secured a takedown with seconds left in the first, taking a 3-0 lead. A second period escape and a point for stalling called against Shapiro gave Kasak the 4-2 win. In the third place match, Kasak earned the victory and bronze after an 8-0 major decision over Trevor Chumbley of Northwestern.
In a format which allowed the NCAA to use four mats all session, the seventh place matches went next, followed by the fifth place matches, then closing out with third place matches.
Seventh place finishers from teams in the top ten were Jacob Van Dee of Nebraska (133), Matthew Singleton of NC State (174) and Silas Allred of Nebraska (184). Van Dee closed out his tournament with a 7-2 decision over Tyler Knox of Stanford. Singleton scored a 3-1 decision over Danny Wask of Navy, and Allred placed seventh after defeating Donnell Washington of Indiana, 4-2.
