U.S. athletes win 48 medals in Tallinn Open in Estonia, including 16 gold medals

A large group of U.S. age-group wrestlers, many representing their club programs, competed this weeked at the Tallinn Open in Tallinn, Estonia.

This event is dubbed the largest tournament in Europe and provided competition for boys and girls in four divisions. Both boys and girls had competition in freestyle and Greco-Roman.

Three athletes won double titles, claiming golds in both freestyle and Greco-Roman. Winning both titles in the Boys 2010 and under division were Korbin Kiessling (35 kg) and Devin Garcia (53 kg). Claiming golds in both styles in the girls Born 2005-2007 division was Eve Skrocki (65 kg).

Other individual gold medalists for the United States were:

  • Peggy Dean, 46 kg women’s freestyle (Born 2010-2011)
  • Katelyn Valdez, 50 kg women’s Greco-Roman (U20)
  • Tristan Pino, 48 kg men’s Greco-Roman (Born 2008-2009)
  • Ivan Ivanov, 80 kg men’s Greco-Roman (Born 2008-2009)
  • Miro Parr-Coffin, 41 kg men’s Greco-Roman (Born 2010-2011)
  • MJ Rundell, 51 kg men’s freestyle (Born 2008-2009)
  • Isaac Hierro, 38 kg men’s freestyle (Born 2010-2011)
  • Talon Worden, 85 kg men’s freestyle (born 2010-2011)
  • Joseph Sullivan, 38 kg men’s freestyle (Born 2010 and younger)

In total, USA wrestlers won 47 medals during the event.

Team standings were held in each style and age-division. The United States was the team champion in two women’s tournaments, the U20 Women’s Greco-Roman and the U15 Women’s Greco-Roman. The United States was also third in the U17 Women’s Greco-Roman.

One of the U.S. clubs competing in the event also had a pair of top-three team placements, The Best Wrestler. The club placed second in Men’s Greco-Roman (Born 2010-2011) and was tied for third in the Men’s Freestyle (Born 2010-2011).
