Wabash, with three finalists, takes slight lead over Wartburg after semifinals at NCAA Div. III Nationals

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Led by three semifinal winners, Wabash moved 4.5 points ahead of traditional power Wartburg after the semifinal round at the NCAA Div. III Nationals on Saturday morning. Wabash was in third place after the first day of competition, while Wartburg was in first place.
Wabash finalists are No. 7 Carlos Champagne (125), No, 3 Kyle Hatch (165) and No. 2 Jack Heldt (197).
Wartburg put only one athlete into the finals, No. 3 Zayren Terukina (141), with five wrestlers dropping their semifinals match.
Wabash had 70.5 points to lead, with Wartburg at 66 points. North Central, which was fourth on Friday night, moved into third with 51 points, and Augsburg, which was second last night, was in fourth with 50.5 points.
It has been a good year for New England schools, with three finalists: No. 3 Nathan Lackman of Rhode Island College (157), No. 3 Michael Ross pf Johnson & Wales University (174) and No. 3 Paul Detwiler of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (184)
The competition is continuing this session with consolation rounds, which could greatly affect the standings prior to the gold-medal finals.
