U23 Nationals and U20 World Team Trials Set for June 2-4 in Geneva, Ohio

Over 1,000 elite athletes will participate in the 2023 U23 Nationals and U20 World Team Trials slated for June 2-4 at the Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio.
The three-day event features competition for the U20 and U23 age groups in men's freestyle and Greco-Roman. U20 champions in both styles earn a spot on the U.S. U20 World Team that will compete at the 2023 UWW U20 World Championships in Warsaw, Poland, this August.
Among those expected to compete in the U20 Greco-Roman division include returning champions Pierson Manville at 67 kg, Hunter Garvin at 77 kg, Adrian Artsisheuskiy at 77 kg and Braden Stauffenberg at 72 kg.
In the U20 Freestyle division, champions from last year’s event registered to compete include Brayden Thompson at 86 kg, Bennett Berge at 86 kg, Mitchell Mesenbrink at 74 kg, Jesse Mendez at 65 kg, Jore Volk at 57 kg, Nic Bouzakis at 61 kg and Vince Cornella at 65 kg.
There are two athletes returning to compete in the U23 Greco-Roman division after winning their respective weight classes last year: Phillip Moomey at 60 kg and Justin McCunn at 82 kg. Returning U20 Greco-Roman champions expected to make the move up to U23 this weekend are Payton Jacobson at 77 kg, Richard Fedalen at 72 kg and Jonathan Gurule at 60 kg.
In U23 freestyle, returning champions registered include Jacob Cardenas at 92 kg, Cole Matthews at 65 kg, Dustin Plott at 79 kg and Jack Thomsen at 74 kg. Returning U20 freestyle champions entered in the U23 division this year include Hunter Catka at 125 kg and Silas Allred at 92 kg.
There will be 10 weight classes contested across four divisions. The weight classes for Freestyle are 57 kg, 61 kg, 65 kg, 70 kg, 74 kg, 79 kg, 86 kg, 92 kg, 97 kg and 125 kg. The Greco-Roman weight classes are 55 kg, 60 kg, 63 kg, 67 kg, 72 kg,77 kg, 82 kg, 87 kg, 97 kg and 130 kg.
The top eight place winners in the U20 division, who are age and grade eligible, will qualify for the Junior National Championships in Fargo, N.D., later in the summer.
The Greco-Roman tournament in both age groups will be held in its entirety on Friday with finals scheduled for 4 p.m. (ET). The freestyle competition will span Saturday and Sunday. U20 will complete its tournament in one day, with finals set for 4 p.m. (ET) on Saturday. U23 finals are slated for Sunday afternoon.
