Mark Reiland and Willie Gadson to go ‘On the Mat’ this week

1991 NCAA Champion Mark Reiland and four-time All-American Willie Gadson will be radio show guests Wednesday night.

Mark Reiland was a two-time high school state champion for Eagle Grove (IA) in the 1980s. He went on to the University of Iowa where he became a two-time All-American and NCAA Champion at 167 pounds in 1991. He is currently the head coach at Iowa City West High School where he has won two traditional and two dual meet state championships. Reiland also serves as the state leader for the Iowa Wrestling Federation, coaching the elite high school wrestlers participating in freestyle and Greco-Roman. Reiland was recently in Fargo, North Dakota for the Cadet and Junior National Championships where Iowa crowned two champions in Derek St. John (160 lbs, Junior freestyle) and Justin Koethe (145 lbs, Cadet freestyle).

Willie Gadson won two NJCAA titles for Nassau Community College at 190 pounds in the early 1970s. Gadson went on to Iowa State University where he placed third and sixth in the NCAA tournaments at 177 pounds. The head coach at Waterloo East High School (IA), Gadson's Trojans have placed 10th and 8th in the Class 3A state tournament the last two years. In 2008 and 2009, all nine East High wrestlers who qualified for state brought home a medal, including his son, Kyven Gadson, who won the 171 pound title this season and recently declared to wrestle at Iowa State University.
