Three-time U20 World Champion Amit Elor has been named the USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on August 24.
Elor was dominant in the 72 kg field at the 2023 U20 World Championships in Amman, Jordan, last week. In the finals, Elor defeated past U17 World champion Bukrenaz Sert of Turkey in stunning 11-0 fashion for the gold medal.
Throughout the tournament, Elor made her way through the bracket without surrendering a single point to the opposition. In the semifinals, Elor defeated U20 Asian champion Yuka Fujikura of Japan by 10-0 technical fall.
Leading into the semifinals, Elor brought down U20 continental silver medalists, Shamshiyabanu Tastanbek of Kazakhstan and Patrycja Cuber of Poland. In her first match of the tournament, Elor defeated Tastanbek by 10-0 technical fall.
The win gives Elor her seventh overall World medal across all age divisions, six of which are gold. She was the Senior World champion last summer in Belgrade, Serbia, and will look to replicate that feat next month. She is also a U23 World champion, three-time U20 World champion and a U17 World Champion.
