Women’s College Postseason winners: NCAA No. 1 North Central (NCWWC Reg. IV), NCAA No. 5 Colorado Mesa (NCWWC Reg. IV), NAIA No. 1 Menlo College (Cascade Collegiate)

On Sunday, three women’s college post-season tournaments were held, two NCWWC Regional Championships and one NAIA Conference Championships.

NCAA No. 1 North Central, which hosted the NCWWC Region IV Championships, won the tournament. NCAA No. 5 Colorado Mesa won the NCWWC Region VI held at Texas Woman’s University. NAIA No. 1 Menlo College won the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships, which Menlo hosted.

The NAIA Conterence Championships each have specific allocations (by weight class) for the NAIA National Championships in Jamestown, N.D., March 8-9.

NCAA No. 1 North Central wins NCWWC Region IV, and qualifies 15 for nationals, Aurora is second

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Host NCAA No. 1 North Central dominated NCWWC Region IV, winning nine individual titles on Sunday and pushing all 15 athletes to the NCWWC Nationals.

North Central scored 219 points, with NCAA No. 9 Aurora in second with 106 points and NCAA No. 18 UW-Stevens Point in third with 103.5 points. North Central is the defending NCWWC national team champions.

Individual champion for North Central were Madison Avila (101), Kendra Ryan (109), Sydney Petzinger (116), Amani Jones (123), Salome Walker (130), Yele Aycock (136), Alara Boyd (143), Yelena Makoyed (170) and Traeh Haynes (191). Jones, Aycock, Makoyed and Haynes were also regional champions in 2023. Avila, Boyd and Makoyed are past NCWWC champions.

Three of the finals featured two North Central athletes. The teammates chose not to compete against each other, with one wrestler taking an injury default victory.

The only other individual champion was Nina Makem of Augsburg (155), who beat North Central’s London Houston in the finals, 3-2.

UW-Stevens Point earned eight qualifiers for the NCWWC, while Aurora put five athletes into the nationals. Eight different teams had at least one qualifier.

DENTON, Texas – NCAA No. 5 Colorado Mesa had five individual champions and qualified 11 wrestlers for the national champions while winning the NCWWC Region VI Championships on Sunday.

Colorado Mesa scored 221 points, while NCAA No. 6 Simon Fraser scored 207 points. Placing third was NCAA No. 19 Schreiner with 113 points. Colorado Mesa was also a regional champion in 2023.

Individual champions for Colorado Mesa were Jennesis Martinez (101), Isabella Morales (109), Holly Beaudoin (136), Dalia Garibay (155) and Caylee Collins (170). Martinez, Beaudoin and Garibay were all regional champions last year.

Simon Fraser, which also qualified 11 athletes for the national tournament, was led by three individual champions, Maddie Mackenzie (116), Victoria Seal (123) and Marquesis Haintz (130). Seal was a regional champion last year as well.

Other individual champions were Alice Rickett of Linfield (143) and Kamila Montenegro of Chadron State (191).

Schreiner had five qualifiers, while Chadron State and Sioux Falls both had four qualifiers. Nine different teams had at least one qualifier.

NAIA No. 1 Menlo wins Cascade Collegiate Conference with four champs, NAIA No. 4 Southern Oregon a close second

ATHERTON, Calif. – Host NAIA No. 1 Menlo had four individual champions and edged NAIA No. 4 Southern Oregon to win the Cascade Collegiate Conference on Sunday.

Menlo scored 176.5 points, with Southern Oregon in second with 172.5 points and NAIA No. 5 University of Providence in third with 144 points. Southern Oregon is the defending NAIA Nationals team champion.

Winning titles for Menlo were Ajayzee Zaballos (116), Alana Vivas (123), Desiree Jones (143) and Tavia Heidelberg-Tillotson (191). Heidelburg-Tillotson was also a CCC champion last year.

Southern Oregon was led by champions Carolina Moreno (130), Caitlyn Davis (155) and Shenita Lawson (170). Moreno, who was a conference champion last year, is a two-time NAIA national champion.

Providence also had three champions, Erin Hikiji (101), Paige Morales (109) and Waipuilani Estrella-Beauchamp (136). Estrella-Beauchamp, who repeated as conference champion, won a 2021 NAIA national title for Midland.

The conference was awarded 43 NAIA National allocations, which are distributed by weight class. Additional athletes could be added to the NAIA Nationals field as at-large selections, announced by a committee at 5:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
