Returning champs Webber, Schwab, Detar, Stewart reach USMC 16U Greco-Roman Nationals quarterfinals

FARGO, N.D. – All four returning champions have reached the quarterfinals of the USMC 16U Greco-Roman Nationals on Friday: Loc Webber of Ohio (100), Hayden Schwab of Iowa (106), Will Detar of Pennsylvania (120) and Aaron Stewart of Illinois (165)
Webber opened with a pair of technical falls, beating Mason Hoffman of Oklahoma, 11-0 and Case Bridge of Indiana, 8-0. Webber will battle Drew Dawson of Oregon in the quarterfinals.
Schwab blasted into the quarterfinals with three technical falls, beating Joseph Little of North Carolina, 8-0, Matthew Valdez of New Mexico, 8-0 and Daniel Myint of Illinois, 9-0. He will wrestle Coleton Klipa of Pennsylvania in the morning quarterfinals.
Detar had four straight technical falls, beating Andrew Taylor of Florida, 8-0, Grady Roybal of Utah, 8-0, Soren Kelsall of Iowa, 8-0 and Jamison Gregory of Michigan, 12-4. He will face Gage Spurgeon of Iowa in the quarterfinals.
Stewart opened with two technical falls, stopping Walker Wendel of Oklahoma, 8-0 and Nicholas Olvera of Illinois, 8-0. He followed with a 17-second pin over Oliver Ollman of Minnesota. Stewart will face Caige Horak of Ohio in the next match.
All three Triple Crown eligible wrestlers have also reached the quarterfinals, Stewart plus Noah Bull of Utah (144) and Jonathan Rulo of Illinois (285).
Nine of the 2024 16U freestyle champions who entered the Greco-Roman tournament are quarterfinalists: Schwab, Detar, Stewart, Bull and Rulo, plus Ariah Mills of Georgia (94), Lucas Boe of Indiana (165), Brayden Koester of Iowa (175) and Alex Taylor of Ohio (215).
The only 2024 16U freestyle champion who did not reach the quarterfinals was Stephen Myers of West Virginia (126), who was beaten in the Round of 16 by No. 1 seed Bruno Cassioppi of Illinois, 12-6. His brother Rocco Cassioppi, the No. 1 seed at 120 pounds, also reached the quarterfinals.
Two runners-up from the 2023 16U Greco-Roman Nationals are in the quarterfinals, Austin Collins of Colorado (132) and David Calkins of California (190).
Six 2023 14U Greco-Roman National champions advanced to the quarterfinals in their first year at the 16U Nationals: Lucas Forman of Nevada (94), Tyler Verceles of Maryland (94), Corey Brown of Maryland (106),
Abraham Coronado of Nevada (110), James Whitbred of Pennsylvania (144) and Ivan Ivanov of Idaho (157)
2024 16U Nationals freestyle champion Brayden Koester of Iowa beat 2023 14U Nationals Greco-Roman champion Isaac Barrientos of Illinois, 8-0 in the Round of 16 at 175 pounds.
The Saturday morning session will feature the quarterfinals and the semifinals for both 16U wrestlers and Junior wrestlers. The competition will conclude Saturday night.
