Benjamin, Cardenas, Stemmet, Bommarito unbeaten day one of Beach World Series in Romania

TIMISOARA, Romania – Four U.S. wrestlers were unbeaten after the first day of competition at the Beach World Series Timisoara in Romania on Saturday.

The unbeaten U.S. athletes were Justin Benjamin (70 kg men), Daniel Cardenas (80 kg men), Nick Stemmet (Over 90 kg men) and 2023 World champion Eliana Bommarito (Over 70 kg women). All four were 2-0 in their Group competition for the day.

Day one included two rounds of competition during the Group stage of the event.

Bommarito went 2-0 in her three-athlete Group, which means she won the Group and has clinched a position in the semifinals bracket on Sunday.

Benjamin, Cardenas and Stemmet can clinch a spot in the bracket by winning their final pool matches on Sunday morning. If they lose, they still have a possibility of advancing.

U.S. wrestlers with one win and one loss on Saturday were Mitch Brown (70 kg men) and Kyle Ferriter (Over 90 kg men). A win on Sunday morning could make it possible for them to advance out of the Group stage.

Competition on Sunday features two sessions, 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Timisoara is seven hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time zone.
