USA Wrestling, the national governing body for wrestling in the United States, is seeking qualified candidates for the volunteer position of Independent Member of the Board of Directors.
This person cannot have involvement in the wrestling community (as explained in the position posting), but should have the experience, knowledge, skill and commitment to serve in a leadership role.
While active members of the wrestling community are not eligible for this position, those within wrestling are encouraged to share this information with those they know outside of wrestling who are well qualified and would serve the organization and sport with distinction.

Position
The Board supports the work of USA Wrestling and provides leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by USA Wrestling’s Executive Director (ED), the Board-ED relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected.
Board terms/participation.
USA Wrestling’s Board Members will serve a two-year term and are eligible for re-election for four consecutive additional terms. There is an annual in-person Board meeting.
Required Qualifications - Independence
A Director is considered independent if they have not, within the preceding five (5) years:
(a) Been employed by or held any governance position (whether a paid or volunteer position) with USA Wrestling, the UWW, UWW Americas, any sport family entity of wrestling, any entity affiliated with USA Wrestling, or any organization subject to the policies and procedures of USA Wrestling;
(b) Had an immediate family member employed by or held any governance position (whether a paid or volunteer position) with USA Wrestling, the UWW, UWW Americas, any sport family entity of wrestling, any entity affiliated with USA Wrestling, or any organization subject to the policies and procedures of USA Wrestling;
(c) Been affiliated with or employed by USA Wrestling’s outside auditor or outside counsel;
(d) Had an immediate family member affiliated with or employed by USA Wrestling’s outside auditor or outside counsel as a partner, principal, or manager;
(e) Been a member of USA Wrestling’s Athletes’ Advisory Council;
(f) Been a member of any constituent group with representation on the Board;
(g) Received any compensation from USA Wrestling, directly or indirectly;
(h) Been an executive officer, controlling shareholder, or partner of a corporation or partnership or other business entity that does business with USA Wrestling;
(i) Been a member of USA Wrestling in a membership category that participates in competitions; or
(j) Been the parent or close family member of an athlete or member of USA Wrestling.
(k) Once elected, the Independent Board Member will be required to become a member of USA Wrestling solely in order to complete Board required training and background screening.
Service on USA Wrestling’s Board of Directors is without remuneration, except for administrative support, travel, and accommodation costs in relation to Board Members’ duties.
