Sprague, Kelly win gold, Boyd takes bronze in U20 freestyle at Pat Shaw Memorial

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala – A pair of U.S. athletes, Aiden Sprague (61 kg) and Conner Kelly (97 kg) won gold medals in the U20 men’s freestyle division at the Pat Shaw Memorial on Saturday.
Sprague, who is from Indiana, defeated runner-up Pablo De Vits Saez of Chile by technical fall, 10-0, in his only contested match of the tournament.
Kelly, who hails from Colorado, won his gold medal uncontested. It is the second gold medal of the weekend for Kelly, after winning the Senior gold medal at 92 kg on Friday.
Brayden Boyd of Oregon (57 kg) came home with a U20 freestyle bronze medal with a 2-1 record. After a quarterfinals 10-0 technical fall win Jeremy Raymundo Gonzalez of Guatemala, Boyd lost a tight 9-7 match to Ire Jackson of Jamaica in the semifinals. He rebounded with a 35 second pin over Gerson Lima of Guatemala in his bronze-medal bout.
It was the second bronze medal of the weekend for Boyd, who also won a 57 kg freestyle bronze medal at the Senior level on Friday.
The team is coached by Rob Bronson of Athletes In Action.
The three U.S. athletes from an AIA tour team which entered this international competition.
