Siebrecht earns freestyle gold at Matteo Pellicone Memorial in Sassari, Italy

SASSARI, Italy – Hawkeye Wrestling Club athlete Cobe Siebrecht picked up a gold medal at 70 kg in men’s freestyle on Saturday at Matteo Pellicone Memorial in Sassari, Italy.
Siebrecht, who is a Senior student-athlete at the University of Iowa, went 4-0 in a five-man round robin bracket to secure his place atop the podium. He began his day with decision wins over a duo from Moldova, 2024 U23 European bronze medalist Constantin Chirilov, 10-4, and three-time age-group World medalist Nicolai Grahmez, 6-3. Siebrecht followed with a pair of 10-0 technical fall wins over Italy’s own Gia Coletti and Daniele Gubbiotti.
The Lisbon, Iowa, native was a NCAA qualifier for the Hawkeyes at 157 pounds in 2023. On the freestyle side, Siebrecht took fourth place at the 2022 U23 Nationals and was an eighth-place finisher at the 2020 U20 Nationals.
