Bellarmine leads NCWA Nationals men’s division on day two, with Grays Harbor on top in the women’s division

BOSSIER CITY, Louisiana – The second day of the NCWA Nationals completed with the No. 1 ranked teams on top of the standings, as Bellarmine was first in the men’s standings and Grays Harbor leading in the women’s division. The All-Americans have been determined in both divisions.
On the men’s side, Bellarmine pushed seven wrestlers into the gold-medal finals, and have two other All-Americans, finishing the day with 199.5 points. Second-place Liberty has four in the finals, and five more All-Americans still alive, to reach 159.5 points after day two.
The Bellarmine finalists are Damion Ryan (125), Trayce Eckman (133), Zac Cowan (149), Gray Ortis (157), Grant O'Dell (165), Cole Nance (174) and Sam Schroeder (184). Cowan and Nance are returning champions. Bellarmine is the returning team champions, and is in transition to NCAA Div. I wrestling.
Liberty’s finalists are Aiden Scheeringa (125), Reid Stewart (157), Josiah Murphy (235) and Frederick Weaver (285). Murphy and Weaver are returning champions.
Rounding out the top five are Thomas More with 119.5 points, The Apprentice School with 110 points and Lindenwood with 96.5. Thomas More has six All-Americans and one finalist. The Apprentice School and Lindenwood both have seven All-Americans, including one each in the finals. Lindenwood is also transitioning to NCAA Div. I.
On Sunday, the men have two more rounds of consolations, followed by the medal matches.
In the women’s division, Grays Harbor held a slight lead over returning national champion and No. 2 ranked Ottawa-Arizona after day one of the women’s competition at the NWCA Nationals. The first day for women concluded with the semifinals, as well as the ‘blood round’ which determined the All-Americans for this year.
The battle for first place will be between Grays Harbor, with 138 points, and Ottawa-Arizona with 131 points. Grays Harbor pushed four athletes into the finals, and has the most All-Americans with 10. Ottawa-Arizona has the most finalists, with five, and has eight total All-Americans.
There will be two Grays Harbor against Ottawa-Arizona match-ups in the finals. At 191, No. 1 seed Renaeh Ureste of Grays Harbor battles No. 2 seed Deonne Topete of Ottawa – Arizona. In the 235-pound finals, No. 1 seed Jojera Dodge of Grays Harbor wrestles No. 2 seed Evelyn Coronado of Ottawa – Arizona.
Third place should be a battle between Washington State, now with 75.5 points an Utah Tech, now with 69.5 points.
All three returning champions have reached the finals, Ureste, plus Viveca Pannell of MIT (130) and Veloria Pannell of MIT (143).
The women have competed through the consolation finals, and only have first-place, third-place and fifth-place matches left on Saturday.
