Brooke Huffman (Wittenberg, Wis./Team Nazar Training Center) has been named the USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week, presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare, on March 20, 2024.
The 15-year-old from Wittenberg, Wis., made a serious statement as the only athlete to win both the 16U and Junior divisions at the Air Force Special Warfare Folkstyle Nationals, pinning her way through both tournaments.
Huffman began her time at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls by scoring three pins in the Junior 190-pound bracket. She defeated Ella Murphey of Mayhem Wrestling Club in the championship bout by fall in 2:00. Her total mat time in the Junior tournament was 8:31.
Following up with the 16U tournament, also at 190 pounds, Huffman was more dominant. She earned three pins in 5:30 total match time. Her finals opponent, Cambree Anderson of MATPAC Wrestling Club, made it to the 2:55 mark before giving up the fall.
Huffman recently earned a WIAA (Wisconsin) high school state title as a freshman competing for Wittenberg-Birnamwood. In 2023, Huffman was a runner-up finisher at the 16U Freestyle Nationals in Fargo, N.D., a third-place finisher at the 16U Folkstyle Nationals and a Northern Plains Regional champion.
