NEW YORK, N.Y. – It was an excellent night for the U.S. women’s freestyle program, as seven Americans came home with gold medals at the Bill Farrell Memorial International at the New York Athletic Club on Friday night.

The Outstanding Wrestler was veteran star Erin Golston, who defeated five-time college national champion Emily Shilson by injury default in the finals at 50 kg. Golston jumped to an 8-1 lead in the match, after scoring a takedown and three turns from the top. The score was 9-2 in favor of Golston in the second period when Shilson was unable to continue.

There were two other all-USA finals, won by Alara Boyd at 62 kg and 2024 U23 World champion Yelena Makoyed at 76 kg

Boyd, a past college national champion and age-group World medalist, opened up her offense against U.S. Olympic Training Center resident Skylar Hattendorf, 9-0. Boyd had a comeback 7-5 win over Katerina Lange in the semifinals.

Makoyed trailed in the finals against 2022 Senior World Team member Dymond Guilford, scoring a takedown in the second period for a 3-3 victory by criteria.

Also winning in the finals was Xochitl Mota Pettis at 57 kg, who defeated Mia Friesen of Canada, 8-3. Mota Pettis popped a four-point move in the second period to pull away in the match.

Three U.S. women were undefeated in their round-robin competitions to claime gold medals, Vayle Rae Baker at 55 kg, Ana Luciano at 65 kg and Skylar Grote at 72 kg.

Baker won both of her two matches in a three-athlete roundrobin in the morning session, both by technical falls. She stopped Milana Borrelli of the USA, 14-3 and Kendall Detloff of Canada, 10-0. Baker is a past U.S. Open champion.

Luciano won four matches in her weight class, including a pin of eventual runner-up Elleni Johnson of the USA. In the final session, she clinched the gold with a pin of Jonelle Clarke of Canada in 2:04.

Grote dominated her round robin, pinning Olivia Pizano of the USA in 2:56, then scoring a 10-0 technical fall over Faith Telford of Canada.

Canada had the other three individual champions, Samantha Stewart (53 kg), Macy Malysiak (59 kg) and Olivia DiBacco (68 kg)
