James grabs silver, Moss bronze in Greco-Roman on day five of Veterans World Championships

by Richard Immel, USA Wrestling

POREC, Croatia – Two Team USA athletes found a place on the medal stand on Saturday at the 2024 Veterans World Championships. Rudy James finished with a silver medal at 78 kg in Division C and Todd Moss came away with a bronze medal at 100 kg in Division D.

Wrestlers in action on the day were Division C, athletes 46-to-50 years old, and Division D, athletes 51-55 years old.

James claimed his second medal of the week, adding on to his gold medal performance from the freestyle side. He picked up a pair of shutout decisions over Individual Neutral Athlete’s Stanislav Pechurin and Andrei Borisov. It was tough sledding for the Minnesota native in the finals as James fell by technical fall to Jimmy Samuelsson of Sweden, 11-0.

California native Jeremy Black was the only other American to compete in Division C. He went 1-1 to finish in 10th place at 88 kg.

The duo of James and Black was enough to put the U.S. in 10th place overall in the Division C team race, which was won by Kazakhstan.

Moss was one of five American participants in Division D, and the only to reach the podium. He posted a 2-1 record on the day, capping his tournament with a 9-1 technical fall win over fellow American Domenico Lemme in the bronze medal bout. Lemme ended in fifth place at 100 kg.

William Carr and Alvin Riggs added top ten finishes to the U.S. tally. Carr wound up in 10th place at 88 kg, while Riggs took ninth place at 100 kg.

The Division D crew finished outside the top ten of the team standings. Hungary took the top spot in the division.

The Veterans World Championships wrap up on Sunday with the Division A Greco-Roman tournament. The action begins at 10:30 a.m. local time, with the finals scheduled for 6 p.m. Porec, Croatia, is located six hours ahead of the U.S. Eastern Time Zone.
