Attao earns silver at Petko Sirakov–Ivan Iliev International in Greco-Roman

SOFIA, Bulgaria – Aden Attao secured a silver medal on the second day of the Petko Sirakov–Ivan Iliev International in Sofia, Bulgaria. Attao competed in Greco-Roman on Saturday, and will compete in men’s freestyle on Sunday.

Attao opened his tournament with a first period fall over Antonio Tahov of Bulgaria. In round two, Attao pinned Achilleas Chrysidis of Greece at 1:58. Chrysidis is a 2023 U20 World bronze medalist in Greco-Roman.

In round three, Attao fell in a 4-0 decision to Amirhossein Abdevali of Iran, a 2023 U17 World bronze medalist and U17 Asian Championships gold medalist. Attao secured silver after pinning Akarys Berdashov of Kazakhstan in the final round.

Attao adds an international medal to his growing resume. He has won two U20 World Greco-Roman bronze medals, claiming his first in 2022 and his second in 2024. He is currently a member of the Senior Greco-Roman National Team, after placing third in the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

The tournament continues on Sunday, with the remaining weight classes (MFS 97 kg, 125 kg, GR 60 kg, 67 kg, WFS 50 kg, 53 kg). Attao will be competing in the 125 kg men’s freestyle bracket.
