by Savannah Asmann, USA Wrestling
ZAGREB, Croatia – Greco-Roman action began on the third day of the 2025 Zagreb Open Ranking Event in Zagreb, Croatia. Four athletes competed for the United States, with one advancing to the bronze medal match.
Olympian Ellis Coleman fell in his first match of the day to Individual Neutral Athlete Dinislam Bammatov, 8-0, at 63 kg. After Bammatov advanced to the finals, Coleman was pulled into repechage where he faced Vitalie Eriomenco of Moldova.
Eriomenco was called for passivity and put down early in the first period. Coleman went to work quickly, and four gut wrenches were enough to secure the 9-0 technical fall. In the bronze medal match, Coleman is set to face Ziya Babashov of Azerbaijan, a 2019 Cadet World silver medalist, later today.
At 63 kg, both 2020 Olympian Ildar Hafizov and U20 World silver medalist Otto Black fell in their opening matches of the tournament. Hafizov dropped a close 7-5 decision to Erfan Jarkani of Iran, who lost in the quarterfinals and eliminated Hafizov from the tournament. Black was edged out by Eriomenco, 4-0.
Competing at 67 kg, 2020 Olympian Alejandro Sancho was defeated in his first match by Individual Neutral Athlete Daniial Agaev, a 2024 U23 World bronze medalist and 2024 European U23 champion, 3-1. After Agaev failed to advance to the finals, Sancho’s tournament was brought to an end.
