USA Wrestling Kids Folkstyle Nationals: Huffman (8U) and Gilbert (10U) named boys Outstanding Wrestlers

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Day one of the 2025 USA Wrestling Kids Folkstyle Nationals featured boys competition in the 14U and 12U age divisions, with exceptional performances across the board.

The Outstanding Wrestler in 8U Boys competition was Jaxon Huffman of Team Tulsa WC, the champion at 70 pounds. Huffman scored a pin in the finals over Emil Cole of Maryland in 2:42. Huffman had three falls and a technical fall during his dominant march to the title.

The Outstanding Wrestler in 10U Boys competition was Cameron Gilbert, the 63 pound champion. Gilbert scored a 53-second pin over Max Corrado of The Best Wrestler in the finals. Gilbert won six matches handily, with four pins, a technical fall and a major decision.

On Saturday, his older brother Chase Gilbert of the Nova WC was named Outstanding Wrestler in the Boys 12U division after a dominant performance at 82 pounds. The brothers train together regularly.

This event is part of the coveted USA Wrestling Triple Crown in all of the age groups. An athlete in the boys divisions wins the USA Wrestling Triple Crown if they win the USA Wrestling national title in folkstyle, freestyle and Greco-Roman in the same year.

8U Notes

Scoring a takedown in sudden victory in the finals at 43 pounds was Silas Russell of Bloomington South WC, who edged Mason Morton of Perry Meridian WC, 6-3.

There were two pins in the finals round, one by Outstanding Wrestler Jackson Huffman, and the other by AJ Puckett of Alpha Elite Wrestling at 62 pounds. Puckett pinned Elias Andronic of Rochelle WC in 1:49.

Two wrestlers won by major decision in the finals, Nelson Zwanziger of Immortal Athletics WC at 49 pounds and Till Stroud of Edina Wrestling Association at 56 pounds.

The four-athlete round robin at 40 pounds went down to the final match between Arthur Robles of the Brighton WC and Samuel Spine of the Floyd WC. Robles won a 15-13 barnburner to secure the title.  

10U Notes

Although there were five 2024 Folkstyle Nationals champions who were entered in the 10U division, none of them were able to win this year, and none make the finals.

There were five pins in the championship finals, including one by the Outstanding Wrestler Cameron Gilbert. Four of the pins in the finals took less than a minute to complete, including Gilbert’s. Others with quick pins were Jacques Finley of Wichita Training Center at 53 pounds (11 seconds), Beau Blevins of Wichita Training Center (36 seconds) and Graeme Lockhart of Central Iowa Wrestling – Team Intensity at 71 pounds (50 seconds). The other wrestler with a pin in the finals was Brody Owens of Wichita Training Center at 56 pounds.

Scoring a takedown in sudden victory to win the 67 pound title was Cameron Allen of Oconomowoc WC, who beat Maddox Newby of Michigan Premier Wrestling, 6-3.

The 105-pound finals featured twin brothers from Illinois, Vincent and Joseph Englese from the St. Charles WC. Vincent Englese scored an 8-0 decision over his brother to claim the gold medal.
