Kyle Snyder (State College, Pa./Titan Mercury WC/Nittany Lion WC) has been selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on March 9.
Snyder won a gold medal at 97 kg in men’s freestyle at the Dan Kolov International in Sofia, Bulgaria, March 4-5, and was named Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament in men’s freestyle.
Snyder won all four of his bouts by technical fall, outscoring the opponents, 37-5. He opened with a pair of 10-0 technical falls over 2021 European Junior bronze medalist Daniil Pidlypenets of Ukraine and Juha Rusila of Denmark. In the semifinals, he put away 2017 Asian U20 champion Danyal Sharatinia of Iran, 14-4. In the championship finals, he stopped Juhwan Seo of Korea, 12-1.
Snyder was a 2016 Olympic champion and has won three Senior World titles. He has won a World or Olympic medal for eight straight years. Snyder was a three-time NCAA champion and four-time finalist for Ohio State. He is originally from Woodbine, Md.
