NAIA No. 4 Campbellsville women repeat as Mid-South Conference champion; No. 1 Life in second

Bowling Green, KY- Campbellsville won their second conference championship in a row and third title in four years.
Early on in the day the Lady Tigers were able to control the tone of the championship. Campbellsville has been ranked fourth in the NAIA polls despite beating Life in the regular season. Overall Campbellsville was able to come away with 207.5 points while top ranked Life University only was able to earn 169 team points.
Campbellsville won key matchups throughout the day against the Running Eagles. A clutch performance from an injured Mia Diaz was one match on the day that was one for the books. Diaz had injury time in one of her early matches and looked like she would not be able to continue. Diaz would end up wrestling in the fifth place matchup in which she won by decision (7-7) with a four point takedown in the final three seconds over Cumberlands Olivia Coyne. Diaz brought in a crucial 10 points for the Lady Tigers from this victory.
Overall on the day, Campbellsville had five individual conference champions, two runner-ups, and two earn the bronze medal honors. The Lady Tigers were led by McKayla Campbell, Randi Robison, Emma Walker, Kendra Thompson, and Alexandra Castillo.
Campbell was able to earn pins in each one of her matches. The longest that she would end up wrestling would be in her opening round matchup against Mattalynn Meek at the 1:44 mark. The final two matches of her tournament did not go over the 1:30 mark of the first period. Robison joined Campbell in a dominant day at the top of the podium. She was able to earn a tech fall in her opening round match as well as a pin in her championship match over Life's Angie Prado.
Freshman Emma Walker made a statement early on that she would be a force throughout the course of the tournament. Her opening round match lasted 14 seconds before she secured the pin. She would have two other matches last under a minute which included her championship match against Indiana Tech's Samantha Snow at 25 seconds. Kendra Thompson was able to secure a tech fall in her opening round matchup as well as two pins in her semi-final as well as her championship match against Hanna Brisher of Cumberlands.
2020 national champion Castillo was able to get her post season started with another title to her career. She won the 170 weight class with a key win over Life's Jordan Nelson. Castillo will look to add an NAIA title along with here 2020 WCWA title in a few weeks.
Jacquelin Ghent earned a silver medal on the day. She won her first two matches which included a tech fall in her first match of the day over Korissa Vanover. Kaitlyn Pizzo was able to join Ghent with a silver medal on the podium. Her performance in the early two rounds was able to push her to the championship. She earned two pins in her opening round matches to push her to the championship match.
Liliana Vergara and Angie Vitiritti brought in the bronze medal for the Lady Tigers in their respective weight classes. Vergara was able to avenger her first round loss by winning her next three matches to push her to the bronze medal match in which she won with a pin in the first minute. Vitiritti secured the bronzed medal with a 4-3 decision over Life's Briana Kellin with a back and forth match that ended with Vitiritti having a late takedown.
All of the Mid South programs will now await the official NAIA National Championship qualifiers. The national championship returns to Jamestown, North Dakota and will be held March 11-13.
Editor's Note: The University of the Cumberlands came in third with 158.5 points. The Cumberlands had three champions, Elizabeth Dosado (101), Bridgette Duty (130) and Maquoia Bernabe (191). Runner-up Life had a pair of champions in Peyton Prussin (116) and Julia Vidallon (123).
