FOR USA WRESTLING NATIONALS and REGIONALS 1. Tournament Physician and Medical Coordinator have final approval of clearance to compete. Physician's release by any other physician will be considered in the medical check process but is not a guarantee. 2. Any rash or lesion that appears infectious as determined in Medical Check must be covered by an occlusive dressing and must remain in place during entire bout. IF ATHLETE REPORTS TO MAT WIHOUT APPROVED COVERING, they will use injury time ONLY to get it covered. Mat officials will be notified on bout card by yellow highlight if lesion must be covered. 3. Areas of the body that cannot be covered are around the lips, within the scalp or on chin. 4. Any lesion that appears to be Herpes Gladiatorum in early onset stage is not cover-able unless wrestler has been on oral medication for over 72 hours. This is because "normal" cells can slough off the virus that causes Herpes G. 5. Please refer to illustrations of infectious lesions, if you have concerns. Infectious lesions generally have a regular border. Not all fungal lesions are contagious. 6. Shaving over lesions will only spread the infections and will not result in clearance to compete. Use of Bleach over lesions will cause very serious chemical burns and should never be done. Most Ringworm lesions under the skin are unaffected by " bleaching". 7. Multiple lesion sites on the body indicate systematic problem and will not be cleared to compete regardless if they are covered. 8. Rapid aggressive medical management of lesions is the best recourse. Do not hesitate when redness and itching occur.
