The nation’s best boys wrestlers in four Kids age divisions (8U, 10U, 12U, 14U) will come together to compete in freestyle and Greco-Roman at USA Wrestling Kids Nationals, held at the ImOn Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, June 28-29.
This is the second and third leg of the coveted Kids Triple Crown, which is awarded to wrestlers who win USA Wrestling national titles in folkstyle, freestyle and Greco-Roman during the same year. The first leg of the Triple Crown was the Kids Folkstyle Nationals in Fort Wayne, Ind., January 27-28.
USA Wrestling has been giving Kids Triple Crown awards since 1997. There were six Triple Crown winners in 2023 when the event was held in Utah, two at the 14U level, one at the 12U level and three at the 10U level.
Of the 2023 Triple Crown winners, one has registered for this year’s Kids Nationals, Ian Weber of the Ringers Wrestling Club in Wisconsin at 67 pounds in the 12U division. He won his Triple Crown last year in the 10U age division at 59 pounds.
Six of the 2022 Triple Crown winners are still age-eligible and have registered for the event this year. These athletes, listed by their current age-group and weight class, include:
- Jacob Graber of Minnesota (12U, 58)
- Korbin Kiessling of Maryland (12U, 67)
- Austin Armstrong of Idaho (12U, 82)
- Kody Doran of Missouri (12U 160)
- Reece Movahead of Virginia (14U, 114)
- Tyrus Alley of Missouri (14U, 187)
All of the champions from the 2024 Kids Folkstyle Nationals are eligible for the Triple Crown. At the conclusion of the Greco-Roman tournaments, USA Wrestling will track how many of the boys athletes remain eligible for the Triple Crown.
This year, the Triple Crown program has been expanded to include the 8U division.
The tournament will be hosted over three days. The event begins with Greco-Roman on Friday. All of the Greco-Roman tournaments are scheduled to end Friday, except the 12U division, which is scheduled to conclude on Saturday. All of the freestyle tournaments begin on Saturday, with 8U and 14U concluding that day. The schedule has 10U and 12U freestyle completed on Sunday morning.
All of the action will be broadcast live on FloWrestling.
